Photogate is essentially an invisible light-based "burgler alarm"-like
sensor. Objects pass between a light source and a sensor. It records the
duration for which the light was interrupted by the object, which
result in measurements of velocity and acceleration. This is a very
useful tool for experiments or demos where higher accuracies are called
for, where the human response time is a limiting factor.
Vernier Photogate model: VPG-BTD is a sensor that is a general-purpose photogate which can be used for a wide variety of experiments in physics and physical science classes. Compatible with Vernier LabPro, Vernier LabQuest, Vernier SensorDAQ and Texas Instruments CBL2 interfaces.
